Jazmine Clarke has worked in education for over 15 years. Jazmine started out working as an Assistant to the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology for Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. At the beginning of her teaching career, she taught Secondary Science and Adult Education which included: Credit Recovery, English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and the General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Over the last ten years, she has worked as an AVID coordinator and Small Learning Community coordinator. She currently works as an AVID Area Coach, AVID Coordinator, Project Innovate Instructor, AVID Elective Teacher, National Staff Developer, Consultant and GED instructor in Hillsborough County Public Schools. She is also an Adjunct Professor for Hillsborough Community College and is a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator. She has completed training in the 21st Century Learning Design, Diversity and Inclusion, AVID Digital Teaching and Learning and MIE Trainer Academy. Jazmine is passionate about stakeholder buy-in and students taking ownership of their learning. Her favorite quote is from Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu “What you do MOST is what you do BEST!”
Awards as an educator include: (1) Bay News 9 A+ Teacher of the Month, Interviewed for her work with the AVID program and the outstanding results for the school district by lead Anchor Al Ruechel. Featured across Tampa Bay with average viewership of 2.2 Million and awarded A+ Educator Award (2) Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year Award (Hillsborough High School)- 2014, 2017, 2019, 2021 (3) AVID Teacher of the Year (Hillsborough County) – 2015, 2016 (4) Jerrie Coleman Sims Outstanding Educator Award, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., South Atlantic Region’s Cluster II- 2019
Karen Willis-Barrett is currently serving as an AVID coordinator for Hillsborough County Public Schools at Howard W. Blake High School. Accomplishments during her career include the following: (1) Karen was featured in a CCTV Public Service Commercial for her work with African American males and the development of her organization Men of Vision and Purpose at Greco Middle School (2) In 2008, she was chosen by her mentor Dr. Donna Elam to help organize and present for two separate Community Leadership Summits which included representatives from organizations such as the Florida Department of Education ,FBI and the Florida Commission on Human Relations as well as local community leaders and educational administrators (3) In 2009, 2010 and 2013 Karen collaborated with the FBI to develop the FBI Jr Agent Academy with both Greco and Stewart Middle Schools. (4) From 2009 to the present, she has initiated both Greco and Stewart Middle School Civil Air Patrol Squadrons where she has served as both squadron commander and in administrative positions.
Awards as an educator include: (1) Mrs. Willis-Barrett has been nominated Ida S Baker Diversity Educator of the year by Greco and Stewart Middle Schools in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and Blake High School in 2018, 2020. She was subsequently awarded Ida S Baker Diversity Educator of the Year for Hillsborough County in February 2010. (2) She was nominated for Magnet School teacher of the year in 2014. (3) Karen was Nominated Teacher of the year October 2014 and named one of four finalists for Hillsborough County in February 2015.
